CAUTION! It is against the law to store materials that are hazardous or combustible such as gasoline, cleaning fluids, paint, etc... Drain all gasoline from lawnmowers, power tools, boats, snowmobiles, etc. before storing them.
Do not store food items, which could attract rodents or pests.
Insurance: Do not assume that your homeowner or renter insurance will cover your belongings while in storage. You may need to purchase insurance.
Prepare your unit: Lay down cardboard or skids on the floor of your locker by placing plastic on the floor under your goods.
Create a walkway inside your locker to allow for easier access to all of your items.
Pack carefully: Ensure that fragile items are packed with soft packing materials like foam chips bubble wrap. Fill empty space with stuffing to limit the shuffling of the contents during the move. Make sure that boxes are not too heavy to carry once packed.
Wardrobe box: Clothing that ordinarily hangs in a closet should be packed in a wardrobe carton. Keep your out-of-season clothes accessible, you may have your belongings in storage longer than anticipated.

Label your boxes: It’s easy to do when you are packing, and will save you a lot of time when you are searching months down the road for that particular item. Masking tape and an indelible marker make for easy Labels.
Mattresses: Use matters cover to avoid damage damp fingerprint and dust. Place mattresses on end so they stand straight.
Large Appliances and Equipment: if your refrigerator or freezer is not properly cleaned and dried before being stored, you run the risk of them being damaged due to both moisture and mildew. REMEMBER: leave doors slightly ajar when stored.
Organize with Purpose: When packing your storage locker, think of the seasonality behind your access needs. Group like things together, with more frequently needed things towards the entrance of your storage unit.
Stack Items: Our units typically give you between 9 and 10 feet of interior height. Pack your items so that durable, heavy items are on the bottom, and light fragile items are stacked on top, making full use of your storage space.
Books and Files: pack important documents in file boxes. Pack books flat to avoid damage to their spines. Don't overfill boxes and fill extra space with tissue. Keep moisture out by lining these boxes with plastic sheeting on both the top and the bottom
Lawn Mowers: drain all gasoline and oil from all small engines.
Metal: wipe a few drops of oil on tools and bicycles for protection against rust.
Newsprint: Do not use printed newspaper to pack with. The ink may smudge off on your items.
Allow Ventilation: You need to leave space around your boxes for air movement. Do not pack tightly against the walls. If possible, get your boxes off the ground for proper ventilation; Choose your unit size based upon accesibility. If you need access often, consider a larger unit with ample walking space around your goods.
